Miscellaneous Monday

This week’s Misc. Monday is a group effort. šŸ™‚ I solicited the help of my children.

Three great things about visiting our favorite farm —

1. Goats — they make funny noises & it’s fun to help feed them.

2. Chickens — getting eggs from them

3. Jeep rides! — in a 1946 green jeep through the woods.

Bonus answers: 4-wheeler rides because there are a lot of things to see & it’s fun, dogs and more dogs, nature walks, spotting an albino deer, seeing the tractors, seeing the giant storage container filled with hay, and did we mention that fun jeep ride?

  1. Oh, this is easy. My husband grew up on a farm. His sister still lives there and across the field road is the house his grandparents and now his mom and dad live in.

1 – Kittens – My inlaws have several barn cats so in the spring and fall there are kittens galore. Marissa likes to see how many she can tame.

2 – Calves – Marissa gets to help her Grandpa feed them. When she was young she named one of them “Licks.” So, what do you think that was all about.

3 – Fellowship – I just appreciate relaxing with family.

I have an entry entitle Misc. Monday today too… It just meant that I was writing a whole entry without having a plan ~

  2. crystal

my uncle’s dairy farm in eastern WA…

    1. the calves–letting them suck on your fingers (and Uncle Steve letting the boys “ride” one).

    2. chasing the cows

    3. Climbing up into the barn and onto the grain silo.

**my personal favorite things there are: driving the tractor, helping milk the cows and bottle feeding the calves (and letting them suck on my fingers too…)

  3. I have a funny story about calves licking fingers. The last year I taught school, when I was pregnant with Lauren, I took my second graders on a dairy themed field trip. We went to the dairy farm over at Tech and watched milking and visited the calves. Then we went to Dairy Queen for a treat. šŸ™‚

Anyway, in the barn with the calves, the children were petting them and the calves were licking the children. Finally, it was time to go and I called for my students to line up. One little girl, Laura, did not obey. I called again, “Laura, please line up with the class; we’re ready to go.” Laura looked up with an odd expression on her face and whimpered, “But I can’t. I’m stuck.” A calf was licking her fingers and began sucking on her hand. That calf worked his way up her hand and had half of Laura’s arm in its mouth. She could not free herself from its strong suck. It was hilarious!

After I finished laughing, I helped her. šŸ™‚
